Swear words

PST is finally over. On Thursday we had our swearing-in ceremony. It was outside, which made wearing shoes, pants and ties really funny. Not funny ha-ha, but funny oh-my-god-i-am-going-to-die.

Unfortunately, for budget reasons they didn’t bring all of Batch 265 together for swear-in. This was just the Northern Luzon, Bicol and MiMaPa3 hubs. (MiMaPa3 is a crazy acronym for the Tagalog-speaking regions – Mindoro, Marinduque, Palawan and Region 3, which is south western Luzon.) The Easter and Western Visayas hubs had their own swear-in in Cebu.

There were lots of speeches. Each hub did a presentation. My hub (MiMaPa3) did funny haikus. Mine was

Signal 3 typhoon
Formal procession in storm
Only thirteen miles

Some others were

Sweat soaking through clothes
Wish I could go swimming
Hot garbage river

Then new CD (country director) led us in the swear-in:

I, Aaron Simmons, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that I will bear truth faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge my duties in the Peace Corps. So help me God.

And then we had mad picture-taking:
